The Acknowledgement of Service

Once you have drawn up and submitted the Divorce Petition, you will need to wait for a response from your partner, to see whether or not the divorce is going to be contested. If your spouse is going to agree to a divorce, it will hopefully be possible to move things forward quite quickly. However, if your partner is going to contest the divorce, our Family Solicitors Leeds office will be able to advise you of what you need to do next.

Everything depends on the Acknowledgement of Service your partner submits after they have received their copy of the Divorce Petition. In this they will state whether they are planning to challenge the divorce. If they are, they will also have to complete and submit another document, called an Answer, to outline why they are challenging your Divorce Petition. Your partner, the respondent, has a limited time to complete and return these form to the court so the process doesn’t grind to a halt.
